It’s time now to buy your first headset, lap pad and log book, but where do you go?? Your local aviation community is a great place to get known and involved. The best way to get involved is to join a local group, where they can set you up with a good pilot supply store, or shop at your local airport shop. Most airport shops sell items ranging from fuel strainers to headsets at cheap and competitive prices. After you have gone there a few times, you will get to know the people there, making you feel at home.
When you first start your training just a few items are needed. By the time you finish your training you will be able to fill a full size pilot’s bag. To start, most students only need:
- A Log Book
- Headset
- Flying handbook (for home studying)
As time progresses you will need (not limited to):
- Category/Type Generic P.O.H.
- Plotter
- E6B
- Sectional Charts
- A.F.D.
- F.A.R.’s
Buy the right items and take care of those items well. This is not the time to spend potential flight time money on replacement gear.
